Icecrown Citadel - History
Icecrown Citadel is the home of the Frozen Throne and the Lich King himself, Arthas Menethil. Arthas was originally the Crown Prince of Lordaeron, son of King Terenas Menethil however events led him to the prison of a powerful being called Ner'zhul, the two were merged and thus was born the current incarnation of the Lich King, ruler of the Scourge. During their binding there was a massive explosion which caused parts of the glacier at Icecrown to disintegrate leaving in it's place a massive fissure which was moulded to the design of the Lich King and created Icecrown Citadel the majority of which runs as catacombs and rooms deep within the glacier itself. One of the most notable places that was created in the forging of both the Lich King and his Icecrown Citadel was the awesome seat of power now known as the Frozen Throne. It is here your ultimate challenges await you and you must face the threat that is the Lich King and his army of dead
Iecrown Citadel - The Instances
Icecrown Citadel will house raid instance for both the 10 man and 25 man normal and heroic versions but not only that there will also be a 5 player normal and heroic instances.
Icecrown Citadel - The Raid
The raid instance in Icecrown Citadel consists of 12 bosses spaced out over 4 floors with players starting at the lowest level and ascending until they reach the final encounter in which they will confront Arthus Menethil as the Lich King himself inside the Frozen Throne room. Much like in Ulduar there are teleporters that allow players to move between the zones in a much faster manner, when you see the size of the instance zone you'll understand why this is necessary, it's probably one of the biggest areas for a raid made so far and commands a feeling of excitement and daring for even the most battle hardened raider. That's not to say it's the most difficult raid in the game to date, but it does give the impression that it should be.
The first section that you will battle through is The Entryway and it's here that you will fight Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper and The Deathbringer who is supposed to be the greatest Deathknight of them all. You will also have another encounter based on a whole new concept where you need to board an airship with your faction leader and race against the opposing faction to eventually board their ship and destroy them to continue on your quest and move upwards.
On the next floor is an area called "The Plagueworks" where you will come up against some formidable foes that go by the names of Festergut, Rotface and Professor Putricide once you have defeated these challenges you can head to "The Crimson Hall" located on the second floor. Based within the "Crimson Hall" are three mini bosses that make up one boss encounter called the "Blood Prince Council", the council consists of princes Valanar, Kelseth and Taldram and will involve killing all three at the same time and a real test of your groups skill. Once the "Blood Prince Council" has been defeated you must face Queen Lana'thel before moving onto the area known as "Frostwing Halls". By the time you get here you should have been tried and tested ready for battle against Valithria Dreamwalker who is actually a massive green dragon that has been corrupted by the Scourge, this fight holds a nice little twist that we wont reveal here. Sindragosa is your next boss and this is the final encounter that you will need to complete before moving onto the "Frozen Throne" and facing your ultimate test and the true reason of your adventures into Icecrown Citadel, the Lich King himself.
So to recap in a shorter format the bosses for the raid instance are as follows:
The Entryway - Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper, Deathbringer Saurfang and the Airship Battle
The Plagueworks - Festergut, Rotface and Professor Putricide
The Crimson Hall - Blood Prince Council, Queen Lana'thel
Frostwing Halls - Valithria Dreamwalker, Sindragosa
The Frozen Throne - The Lich King
Icecrown Citadel - The Dungeons
There are three 5 man wings in Icecrown Citadel that house instance portals, each designed to be a quick dip into the rich lore that is steeped around the citadel and it's inhabitants.
The first area is called"The Forge of Souls" and it's here that the Lich King is producing some of his darkest constructions known as Soul Grinders.
The bosses you will fight here are Bronjahm the Godfather of Souls and the Devourer of Souls
The second wing that you can access in Icecrown Citadel for 5 man content is called "The Pit of Saron" and is only accessible to those who have already completed the "The Forge of Souls".
Your bosses to confront and defeat here are Forgemaster Garfrost, Krick and Ick and Scourgelord Tyrannus, completing this instance will open up the third and final 5 man dungeon in the called the "Halls of Reflection"
Finishing up in "The Pit of Saron" and then heading into the "Halls of Reflection" you will start to see signs of being inside what is considered the Lich Kings private chambers it's here you will notice the blade called Frostmourne.
There are only two bosses in this 5 man instance but one of them is the Lich King himself! First off you will need to defeat Falric and Marwyn and then you will need to face off against Arthas Menethil, but to ensure that there is some continuity between the 5 man dungeons and the raid instances you wont actually kill him this time around.
